Sophie Hinchliffe

Sophie is an Honours student in the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at The University of Queensland. Sophie has a passion for all things environment, from ecology, conservation, geology, soil science, water quality and catchment systems. She also has a keen interest in improving the efficiency and sustainability of resource use in Australia as well as creating a more sustainable and ethical pathway for future development. Sophie is working with Dr Laura Sonter to assess the risks of future mines on listed Matters of National Environmental Significant under the Commonwealth Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act and provide insight into how prepared we are to prevent further biodiversity loss. Her research aims to enable the strategic development of energy transition minerals in Australia by providing an enhanced understanding of mining threats to biodiversity specifically Matters of National Environmental Significance.
